You will require this document if you are the master of a Regulated Australian Vessel.

Minimum safe manning refers to the minimum amount of seafarers required on board to allow a vessel to travel safely from one port to another.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for a MSMD you must:

  • Be the master of a Registered Australian Vessel; or
  • Be the master of a Foreign vessel.

Please note that the requirements for MSMDs for foreign vessels should be discussed with the Agency.
