Description

You will require this licence if you intend to use protected Olympic expressions, or words closely resembling these expressions, for commercial purposes.

Protected Olympic expressions include:

  • Olympic
  • Olympics
  • Olympic Games
  • Olympiad
  • Olympiads

The expressions 'Olympian' and 'Olympians' are not protected.

Commercial purposes include:

  • applying the expression to goods or services (imprinted on documents or woven onto goods)
  • using the expression in advertisements, brochures, catalogues or other commercial documents that promotes goods or services
  • situations where the application or use of the expression is for advertising or promotional purposes, or is likely to enhance the demand for the goods or services
  • any material that suggests that you are a sponsor or provider of sponsor-like support for the Olympic Games, organising Committees, Australian Olympic team or an individual team member.

Exemptions apply relating to statements about past participation of Olympians and preparation or training of Olympians by sporting organisations and institutes.
