Issue of Trader's Plates - New South Wales

Service summary

You may require trader's plates if your business handles unregistered registrable vehicles. Specifically if you:

  • Manufacture, repair or deal in unregistered registrable vehicles; or
  • Provide a service in relation to unregistered registrable vehicles that the Authority determines will require trader's plates.

Trader's plates allow you to drive unregistered vehicles on public roads for the purpose of your business.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for trader's plates you must:

  • Manufacture, repair or deal in unregistered registrable vehicles or a similar activity determined by the Authority.
  • Complete the application form containing the relevant information; and
  • Pay any required fees.
