Onshore Petroleum Special Prospecting Authority (PSPA) - New South Wales

Description

You will need this authority if you intend to interfere with land to test the:

  • quality of petroleum
  • quantity of petroleum
  • potential to recover petroleum from the land.

This approval gives you the exclusive right to conduct one of the following activities on specified NSW land:

  • speculative geological, geophysical or geochemical surveys
  • scientific investigations.

You may be granted a low-impact prospecting title if the agency determines that your activities are unlikely to impact upon the land.

Please be aware that there is currently a freeze on assessing new applications for this licence. No new applications will be considered until the Strategic Release Framework is in place.

To be eligible for this authority you must provide:

  • a map or plan, drawn in accordance with the regulations, on which there is explanation of the boundaries of the area to which the title is intended to apply
  • a proposed work program complying with the regulations and indicating the nature and extent of operations to be carried on under the authority of the title
  • evidence of your financial standing
  • evidence of your technical qualifications and technical advisers.
