Scientific Licence - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to undertake an activity for scientific, educational or conservation purposes, that is likely to result in one or more of the following;

  • Harm to any protected fauna, or to an animal that is a threatened species or is part of an endangered population or an endangered ecological community;
  • Harm to any protected native plant, or any plant that is a threatened species or is part of an endangered population or an endangered ecological community;
  • Damage to critical habitat; or
  • Damage to a habitat of a threatened species, an endangered population or an endangered ecological community.

Please be aware that your licence may be subject to general conditions. There may also be class-specific or licence specific conditions applied to your licence.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must;

  • Submit an application form;
  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Provide details of your qualifications and experience;
  • Submit any other details or information that may be required, such as details of proposal of your research to be conducted; and
  • Obtain a separate approval for research on animals (if required).
