Private Mental Health Facility Licence - New South Wales

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to keep premises as a private mental health facility (hospital) for the admission, care and treatment of patients. Your licence will specify the maximum number of patients you may keep or treat at your mental health facility and will outline any terms and conditions.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • Be approved to provide medical services and treatments to patients;
  • Appoint a medical practitioner to act as the superintendent of the hospital;
  • Submit a plan of the premises;
  • Submit an approved application form;
  • Pay the required fee; and
  • Comply with any other conditions or hold any other qualifications as required by the Agency.

Duration

The licence will remain in force until it is cancelled or revoked.
