Demersal Fishery Licence - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to commercially fish for demersal or bottom dwelling fish species in offshore waters. The demersal fishery is controlled by a catch based quota. You must hold a quota before you can go fishing under the licence.

This licence allows you to use any of the following fishing methods:

  • vertical lines
  • drop lines
  • finfish long-lines
  • baited fish traps
  • semi-demersal trawl nets in two multi-gear areas.
  • trawl operators must use a bycatch reduction device and square mesh funnel or cod end to reduce the amount of bycatch.

You can apply for a new licence, but cannot buy or sell existing licences. However, you may buy, sell or lease individual transferable quota.

  • $0.083 for each fishery unit for goldband snapper attached to the licence
  • $0.019 for each fishery unit for red snapper attached to the licence
  • $0.069 for each fishery unit for grouped fish attached to the licence
