Bait Net Fishery Licence - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to take fish by bait net or cast net to sell as bait.

Commercial fishing for bait is allowed from the high-water mark to three nautical miles seaward of the low-water mark, but does not include Darwin Harbour and Shoal Bay. The licence is allocated by the Department, there are two licences and both are currently allocated.

The licence does not allow you to take:

  • barramundi
  • king threadfin
  • spanish mackerel
  • mudcrab.

It does not allow you to use any fishing gear other than a bait net, a cast net or a scoop net and gaff. If you are using a bait net it must be hauled by hand, attended at all times while in use, in no less than 30cm of water while being cleared and not anchored or staked.
