Roadside dining area permit (Gold Coast) - Queensland

You will need this permit if you intend to put tables and chairs on the footpath for use by customers consuming food and drinks.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Before you can obtain this licence you need to have the following:
  • town planning approval
  • food business licence
  • public liability insurance

The applicant is required to enclose a copy of their public liability insurance/certificate of currency. The Gold Coast City Council must be noted as an interested part on the policy. The sum insured is to be a minimum of $10,000,000.00.

Please note: Until such time public liability insurance has been received, applications are unable to be processed.

  • liquor licence from Liquor Licensing Queensland, if necessary.
  • Fire egress pathway plan - in this regard the following information must be submitted:
    1. a statement and certified plans by an approved qualified private certifier identifying fire exists in relation to:
    2. internal and adjacent external paths to travel
    3. distance of travel
    4. dimensions of internal/external paths of travel
    5. where open space is deemed to commence.



Council determines the length of this approval.

You can obtain this permit by completing a Roadside dining area permit application and submitting it to council.

Required after applying but before approval is granted:

  • public liability insurance (minimum 10 million dollars ($10,000,000.00))
  • fire egress pathway plan.
