Outdoor dining permit (Barcaldine) - Queensland

Service summary

You need this permit if you intend to put tables and chairs on the footpath for use by customers consuming food and drinks.

There must also be in place a public liability insurance policy to the minimum of five million dollars including council as an interested party.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Before you can obtain this licence you need to have the following:

  • Food business licence
  • Public liability insurance
  • Liquor licence, if necessary
  • A site plan showing:
    1. The boundaries of the site, the outline of the buildings, and the use of adjoining buildings
    2. The area (including dimensions) needed to be used for outdoor dining and the location of all outdoor dining facilities (eg. tables and chairs)
    3. Any , fire hydrants, transformers, telephone booths, mail boxes, bus seats and shelters, traffic signal boxes, fixed rubbish bins, pillars and posts or other obstructions
    4. A photograph of the site frontage and proposed area to be used for outdoor dining, and a photograph or brochure detailing furniture, fittings and accessories to be placed on the footpath.



This permit can be transferred.


This licence expires on 30 June each year.

Additional information

You require this permit if you operate any of the following types of business:

  • restaurants
  • takeaway food premises
  • cafes
  • bars
  • other food-related businesses

If your business serves alcohol you must have a liquor licence. Council reserves the right to object to any liquor licence application, regardless of approval for outdoor dining.
