You need this approval to use land as a camping ground or caravan park where you use the following structures as temporary abodes:

  • cabins
  • caravans
  • tent flies
  • awnings
  • moveable dwellings
  • other structures.

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Definition of terms

Accommodation

means a caravan or a complementary accommodation.

Camping ground

means a commercial camping ground or land approved by the local council for camping.

Commercial camping ground

means land that is made available, on a commercial basis, for camping but does not include a caravan park.

Complementary accommodation

prescribed as appropriate to caravan park is accommodation:

  • an on-site van
  • a cabin
  • a manufactured home
  • a tent or other structure that can be readily assembled and disasembled.
Environmental Harm

have the meaning given in the Environmental Protection Act 1994.

Environmental Nuisance

have the meaning given in the Environmental Protection Act 1994.

Facilities

means:

  • toilets
  • bathing or showering facilities
  • facilities for washing and drying clothes
  • facilities for cooking or food preparation
  • sporting and other recreational facilities
  • other facilities for the use or convenience of people using a camping ground.
Relocatable homes

means a Class 1 or Class 3 building under the Building Code of Australia (or its equivalent).

Site

means an area designated for a single accommodation of a particular type.

Eligibility requirements

You should check that zoning is appropriate prior to applying for this approval.

To receive approval, council must be satisfied of the following:

  • you will operate the caravan park/camping ground in a way that will not cause nuisance, inconvenience or annoyance to the occupiers of adjoining land or environmental harm.
  • all facilities in the caravan park/camping ground will remain at an acceptable standard or will be brought to acceptable standard for use by residents.
  • the proposed manager of the caravan park/camping ground is suitable.
  • the operation and management of the caravan park/camping ground will comply with the criteria laid down under Local Law policies.

You will need to acquire a Development Permit.

Duration

This approval remains in effect for one year.

You can obtain this approval by completing an "Accommodation Park application" and submitting to council.
