Definition of terms

Commercial vessel

Commercial vessel means a vessel used for commercial purposes.


includes any wharf, quay, pier, landing place or stage or platform which is the property or under the control of the Council. The term includes, where necessary, all buildings and other works on the jetty, and the appurtenances of the jetty.

Private vessel

means a vessel used wholly for recreational or sporting activites and not for hire or reward.

Tidal works

means works in or on or above land under tidal water, or land that will or may be under tidal water because of development on or near the land. Tidal works includes the construction of a basin, boat ramp, breakwater, bridge, dam, dock, embankment, groyne, jetty, pipeline, pontoon, power line, seawall, slip, small craft facility, training wall or wharf and works in tidal water necessarily associated with the construction. Tidal works also includes works designed to be exposed to tidal water because of shoreline fluctuations.

Eligibility requirements

Council to ascertain whether:
  • your business (or proposed use) is permitted under council's planning scheme, the level of assessment required to progress the application, conditions attached to any relevant existing development approval and other relevant development information, and
  • to obtain relevant IDAS application forms.
