Performance Based Standards Vehicle Approval - Tasmania

Service summary

You will require this approval if you have built a heavy vehicle according to an approved performance based standards (PBS) design approval. To gain this approval a PBS approved certifier will inspect the heavy vehicle to ensure that it was built according to the design specifications. If the certification inspection is satisfactory, an approval will be issued.

A heavy vehicle is a vehicle with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) or an aggregate trailer mass (ATM) of more than 4.5 tonnes.

Please be aware that your vehicle may have restricted or be denied road access in certain states. You will be notified of any restrictions placed on your vehicle.

Eligibility requirements

When you are submitting a PBS vehicle approval, you must have regard to:

  • The relevant approved guidelines and rules; and
  • The advice of the PBS Review Panel.

Your application must be made with the approved form and accompanied by:

  • The PBS design approval on which the heavy vehicle was built;
  • A certificate for the vehicle issued by a PBS approved certifier;
  • The prescribed fee; and
  • Any other information requested.
