Permit to Act as a Hawker - Tasmania

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to act as a hawker. A hawker sells any goods, wares or services on any public highway, car park, footpath or public reserve. A hawker includes an itinerant trader or pedlar, who travels around the city by any means whatsoever to sell goods, wares or services to the public (other than to commercial premises).

Selling includes, but is not limited to:

  • offering for sale
  • displaying
  • showing or exposing for sale
  • keeping or possessing for sale.

If you intend hawking in a business district you will require a permit including a specific condition allowing this.

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You will be required to lodge an application form together with:

  • the names and addresses of three referees who support your application
  • a list of goods or wares you propose to sell or offer for sale
  • a list of places you propose to sell your goods or wares
  • a statement of the required period of the permit
  • payment of the required application fees.

If you are intending to sell foodstuffs, a certificate from an authorised officer, certifying that the proposed method and manner of selling is satisfactory will also be required.

Any vehicle used for the sale, delivery or carriage of food must be certified by an authorised officer, and be maintained in a hygienic condition.

Expiry

The licence remains in force until June 30 following the date of authorisation
