You will require this licence if you intend to carry out work related to mineral exploration and / or production activities in Western Australia's offshore area.
This licence covers activities outside the geographic area of your existing licence. It will authorise activities which are directly connected with work carried out under an existing offshore exploration, retention or mining licence, and which are necessary to perform that work.
Western Australia's offshore area extends three nautical miles out from the coastal baseline. If you intend to undertake activities beyond this area, you will need to apply for a Commonwealth licence.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
To be eligible for this licence you must:
- Hold an offshore exploration, retention or mining licence;
- Provide details of the activities you propose to carry out;
- Provide a map showing the location of the activities;
- Submit the relevant application form; and
- Pay the required fee.
