Service summary

You must be listed on the Register of Lobbyists to be able to contact a government representative for the purpose of lobbying. The Register provides information to the government and the public about who is lobbying the government and who lobbyists represent.

A lobbyist is a person or organisation who represents the interests of a third party to government. There are some exceptions to this rule, including:

  • people promoting the work of their employer to the government
  • organisations representing the interests of their members
  • trade unions
  • charitable and religious organisations
  • professionals where contacting government is incidental to, but necessary for their work.
