Licence to Keep a Kennel Establishment - Western Australia

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to operate a kennel or keep more than the prescribed number of dogs on your premises. The prescribed number of dogs will differ between councils. Your premises will be inspected by the Council ranger to determine if it is suitable for the proposed purpose.

Be aware that where current complaints have been received about dogs on your property, applications may not be supported by the Council.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must ensure that:

  • The town planning scheme allows the establishment of an approved kennel on your premises;
  • The person in charge of the dogs will reside on the premises, or sufficiently close to the premises so as to control the dogs and ensure their health and welfare; and
  • Give notice of the establishment of a kennel on your premises to the owners and occupiers of any adjoining premises, and in the local newspaper.
