Accreditation of Driving Instructors - Australian Capital Territory

Description

You will require this accreditation if you intend to offer driving lessons to the general public in exchange for payment or reward. Accredited Driving Instructors (ADI) offer training services to people that want to learn to drive a vehicle in preparation for a vehicle licence test.

The Competency Based Training and Assessment Scheme (CBT&A) is intended to ensure that there are minimum standards and consistency across all driving instructors in the ACT. Please use the contact details below to find out more information.

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this accreditation you must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age or older;
  • Hold a current full Australian car licence or a full licence of a class higher than a car licence;
  • Have sufficient driving ability and knowledge of safe driving practices and road law;
  • Be medically fit and a suitable person to provide driving instruction;
  • Hold no prior convictions against your name within the last five years for a disqualifying offence;
  • Have successfully completed a Certificate IV in driving instruction;
  • Hold public liability insurance that insures you against liability in relation to the death, or bodily injury caused from the use of a motor vehicle for providing driving instruction; and
  • Ensure the vehicle you intend to provide training in is fitted with dual controls that have been inspected (at the Dickson Motor Vehicle Registry only) and approved, after you have been given an ADI number.

Duration

Maximum of 5 years, however 1 year licences are also available.
