Animal Welfare (Animal Day Care Establishments) Mandatory Code of Practice - Australian Capital Territory


You will need to comply with this code if you operate, or intend to operate, an animal boarding establishment which offers a day care service (not overnight). Animal boarding establishments are premises where you take care of other people's domestic animals for a fee. For the purposes of this code, domestic animals are limited to:

  • dogs
  • cats
  • puppies
  • kittens.

The code sets out the operational requirements that animal boarding establishments must comply with, including:

  • housing
  • hygiene
  • management
  • health care
  • diet
  • exercise
  • transport
  • disposal of animals
  • processes for lost, injured or deceased animals.
