Animal Welfare Breeding Standards - Australian Capital Territory

Description

You will need to comply with this standard if you intend to breed cats or dogs. The purpose of the standard is to prevent the intensive breeding of female cats and dogs in puppy and kitten farms. The standard sets out rules that outline:

  • when an animal may breed
  • the minimum and maximum age for cats and dogs
  • the maximum number of litters an individual dog or cat can have
  • how often an individual cat or dog may have litters within a time period
  • the minimum age a cat or dog is allowed to start breeding.
