You must comply with the requirements listed in this standard if you intend to store or use explosives. You will be required to comply with the separation distances for the safe storage of explosives. The standard specifies requirements for the safe use of explosives including the mixing, testing, initiation and firing of charges. It also provides information on:

  • misfires
  • ground vibration
  • air blasting
  • blasting in hot material
  • blasting under water
  • demolition by blasting
  • material handling equipment
  • the design, construction and maintenance of magazines.

The standard does not apply to the storage of explosives and explosive ordnance for defence purposes which comply with the Defence Explosives Manual. It should be noted that there is an inconsistency clause listed in the Act where regulations that are in conflict with approved codes of practice are to be complied with. Any requirement of this code that is in conflict with a regulation may be ignored. The regulation must be complied with.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance that may be required.
