Charitable Gaming - Approval to Conduct a Game - Australian Capital Territory

Description

You will need this approval if you operate a charitable organisation and intend to hold fundraising gaming nights. This includes but is not limited to:

  • baccarat
  • blackjack
  • craps
  • a lottery that is not approved
  • a pool betting competition.

You will not need this approval if you intend to conduct games of:

  • backgammon
  • chess
  • bridge
  • scrabble.

A charitable organisation is an organisation, society, institution or body carried on for a religious, educational, benevolent or charitable purpose, other than one carried on for securing financial benefit to its members.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this approval you must ensure:

  • the charitable organisation is a suitable organisation to hold an approval
  • the rules of the game are fair and reasonable
  • the rules and method of conduct can easily be understood by participants
  • the primary purpose of conducting the game is to raise funds for a stated entity for a stated charitable purpose
  • your charitable organisation must be responsible for the promotion and conduct of the game and the event at which the game is conducted
  • the game is not conducted in a place that is a gambling facility of a licensee
  • no more than 3 events are held in 12 months under this approval.
