You will need to comply with this code of practice if asbestos-containing materials (ACM) have been identified in your workplace. The code outlines strategies for:
- identifying all ACM in the workplace
- risk assessment
- control measures to prevent the generation of, or exposure to, airborne asbestos fibres.
The decision to remove ACM should be made on the basis of a risk assessment. This code of practice provides guidance on managing and controlling ACM in the workplace, when the removal of ACM is needed or recommended there is a separate code that must be complied with.
It should be noted that there is an inconsistency clause listed in the Act where regulations that are in conflict with approved codes of practice are to be complied with. Any requirement of this code that is in conflict with what a regulation states may be disregarded, and the regulation complied with.
