Electrician Licence - Australian Capital Territory


You will need this licence if you intend to perform electrical work on any type of premises within the Australian Capital Territory. There are two main categories of electrician licences:

  • unrestricted electrician licence
  • restricted electrician licence.

If you lack the necessary qualifications for an electrician's licence, a permit may be issued so that you may conduct the work under supervision. You will also need an electrotechnology systems permit, or restricted systems permit in regard to any incidental electrical work undertaken in relation to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, gas, refrigeration and air-conditioning works or installations.

To be eligible for an electricians licence you must:

  • hold and provide evidence for an applicable insurance policy
  • have sufficient financial resources
  • have the applicable qualifications for your class of licence.

In addition to the general requirements, you must comply with the individual conditions and requirement for your class of licence.
