High-Risk Work Licence - Australian Capital Territory

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to carry out high risk work. There are different classes of high risk work. You may apply for a licence to carry out one or more classes. High risk work includes:

  • scaffolding work
  • dogging and rigging work
  • crane and hoist operation
  • forklift operation
  • pressure equipment operation.

A licence is not needed to carry out high risk work in the course of training towards a certification, or under the supervision of a person who is licensed to carry out the high risk work. If you have completed a specialised vocational education and training (VET) course for high risk work within the last 60 days then you are exempt from requiring this licence.

Service type

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Exemptions

The regulator may exempt you from needing a high risk work licence if satisfied that granting the exemption will not lower the standard of health and safety that would otherwise be achieved. The regulator must have regard to all relevant matters, including:

  • whether the obtaining of the high risk work licence would be impractical
  • whether the competencies of the person to be exempted exceed those needed for a high risk work licence
  • whether any plant used by the person can be modified in a way that reduces the risk associated with using that plant.
