You will require this licence if you intend to ride a thoroughbred horse in a race in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). There are three variations of licence available:
- Jockey: ride horses in races.
- Apprentice jockey: learn to become a jockey with a licensed trainer.
- Approved rider: ride horses in races at a registered picnic meeting (amateur races).
If you hold a licence to ride issued by an interstate or overseas racing authority, you may be permitted to ride in the ACT, subject to conditions.
