Licence to Carry out High Risk Work - Australian Capital Territory


You will require this licence if you intend to carry out high risk work. There are different classes of high risk work. You may apply for a licence to carry out one or more classes. High risk work includes:

  • Scaffolding work;
  • Dogging and rigging work;
  • Crane and hoist operation;
  • Forklift operation; and
  • Pressure equipment operation.

A licence is not required to carry out high risk work in the course of training towards a certification, or under the supervision of a person who is licensed to carry out the high risk work. If you have completed a specialised vocational education and training (VET) course for high risk work within the last 60 days then you are exempt from requiring this licence. Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • Be 18 years or over;
  • Hold a certificate of competency, a licence to carry out high risk work, or a recognised qualification to carry out high risk work under a corresponding law;
  • Have not been convicted or found guilty of a serious offence;
  • Comply with any other specified requirements;
  • Submit the required form; and
  • Pay the relevant fee.
