Licence to Import Explosives - Australian Capital Territory

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to import explosives. As holder of this licence, you will be in control of:

  • handling the explosive
  • the premises where the explosive is stored after import
  • any associated plant or system
  • any associated activity.

You will also be expected to take reasonable steps in relation to any risk that may arise directly, or indirectly, from the import of the explosive. Certain exemptions apply, please refer to the Agency website for a list of authorised explosives that need no licence to import.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • undergo a security assessment and be considered a suitable person to hold this licence
  • be at least 18 years old
  • in the case of a corporate, supply the corporation's Australian Company Number
  • give details of the purpose of import
  • supply address of the premises where explosive is to be stored after import and appropriate security plans.

Time to approve a licence may vary. Your application should be submitted to ACT WorkCover at least 56 days prior to the need to import explosives.
