Licence to Transport Clinical Waste - Australian Capital Territory


You will need this licence if you intend to operate a business that transports clinical waste. Clinical wastes are wastes resulting from the treatment and care of people and animals, including:

  • sharps (needles, scalpels, pipettes)
  • tissue and fluid specimens
  • cytotoxic and veterinary drugs and pharmaceuticals (used or unused)
  • materials which have been in contact with these substances.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must ensure each vehicle that you intend to use for the transport of clinical waste complies with:

  • the requirements of the Clinical Waste Manual
  • the Australian Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods.
