You will require this certificate if you are an Australian legal practitioner and you intend to engage in legal practise in the Australian Capital Territory. You may apply for one of the three types of practising certificate:
Unrestricted practising certificates are required if you intend to operate as a:
- legal practitioner
- director of an incorporated legal practice
- sole practitioner
- principal in a firm
- in-house lawyer
- head of a legal area in a government agency.
A restricted practising certificate is required by employee solicitors working in firms, government agencies or incorporated legal practices.
If you want to operate as a barrister in the ACT, you must apply for a barrister practising certificate.
