You need to be registered to practise as a medical practitioner. Registered medical practitioners, colloquially referred to as 'Doctors', can use the protected title of medical practitioner. All medical students and doctors seeking to practise medicine in Australia must be registered. This includes operating as a general practitioner, specialist or other similar activities.
There are six different types of registration offered to practitioners:
- general
- specialist
- provisional
- limited
- non-practising
- student.
There is one endorsement for acupuncture available for medical practitioners with additional qualifications and expertise.
