Multiple Dog Licence (Keeper's Licence) - Australian Capital Territory


You will need this licence if you intend to keep four or more dogs on one residential premises. This licence is not needed if the dogs are:

  • less than eighty-four days old
  • being kept by the holder of a racing greyhound controller licence
  • being kept for less than twenty-eight days
  • being kept on land that is under a lease granted for agricultural or grazing purposed
  • being kept on land that is under a lease that allows for an animal care facility.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, all of your dogs must be registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed. When your application has been received, an inspection will occur to ensure that your facility is appropriate for the type and numbers of dogs that the licence will cover. The inspection will assess:

  • the size of the premises
  • the adequacy of the facilities for keeping dogs
  • the security of the premises
  • the likelihood of any nuisance to the neighbours.
