Permit for the Use of Prohibited Weapons - Australian Capital Territory

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to possess or use items that are identified as prohibited weapons. Prohibited weapons include but are not limited to:

  • crossbows
  • suppressors
  • darts
  • catapults
  • batons
  • nunchaku and nunchaku batons
  • military equipment
  • laser pointers.

Permits will only be granted where the proposed use of the item can be justified, such as solely for:

  • sporting competition purposes
  • theatrical and other productions.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be considered a fit and proper person for the purpose of the permit and present no danger to public safety or to peace
  • show sufficient good cause for possession of the item
  • have a clean police record
  • comply with any guidelines approved by the registrar for the storage and security of the prohibited weapon, and any other limitations
  • pay the relevant application fees.
