Public Health Risk Activity Licence - Health Care Facility - Australian Capital Territory


You will require this licence if you intend to operate a health care facility. Health care facilities are premises where prescribed medical and dental procedures are carried out, or premises where overnight patient stays are provided prior to, or after receiving medical treatment. Prescribed medical and dental procedures are procedures that are undertaken for medical or cosmetic reasons by a health care professional that involve:

  • The administration of a general, spinal epidural or major regional block anaesthetic for the purpose of performing an elective procedure, but does not include mandibular blocks;
  • The administration of an intravenous sedative for the purpose of performing an elective procedure;
  • Endoscopy;
  • Dialysis, hemofiltration or hemoperfusion;
  • Prolonged intravenous infusion of a single cytotoxic agent or sequential intravenous infusion of more than one cytotoxic agent; or
  • Cardiac catheterisation.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must submit a completed and signed application form providing:

  • Details about your intended health care facility;
  • Details about the premises that you intend to operate your health care facility from; and
  • A detailed sketch plan showing the layout of all fixtures, fittings, appliances and any other equipment to be installed on the premises.

Licences are usually issued for 1 year, however up to 3 year licences may be available subject to some limitations.
