Real Estate, Stock and Station or Business Agent Licence - Australian Capital Territory


You will need this licence if you intend to operate as an agent on behalf of clients for the sale of certain goods or services. These licences allow a sole trader, a partnership or a firm to trade as a real estate agent, stock and station agent, or a business agent.

Different types of agents deal with different goods and services:

  • real estate agent: involves sales, property management and trust accounting
  • stock and station agent: involves rural sales, rural property management and trust accounting
  • business agent: involves business sales, associated dealings and trust accounting.

Agent licences are divided into two classes (class 1 and class 2). All licensees in charge of a real estate business must hold a class 1 agent licence.

Lodgement process


Please lodge your application and accompanying documentation directly with the administrating agency. The documents that need to be completed and submitted are as followed:

  • personal particulars form
  • statutory declaration for an agent licence or salesperson registration
  • national Police Check from the Australian Federal Police
  • statutory declaration for mutual recognition (if you hold the same type of licence interstate)
  • additional particulars (about trust account)
  • premises particulars
  • certified copies of 2 forms of identification, one being photo identification
  • statement of Attainment of qualifications or notice provided by the Registered Training Organisation confirming enrolment to the relevant course.


You must publish a notice of your intention to apply for a licence (specifying the licence category or categories), in a daily Australian Capital Territory newspaper, before you apply for a licence. You must lodge your application within 10 business days after the notice is published and include a copy of the page on which your notice of intention is published.
