Real Estate, Stock and Station or Business Assistant Agent Registration - Australian Capital Territory

Description

You will need to be registered if you want to carry out work as an assistant agent. An assistant agent is someone who is employed by a licensed agent to provide a real estate, stock and station or business service.

Activities which require registration as an assistant agent include, but are not limited to:

  • selling or letting, or agreeing to sell or let a property, business or rural property
  • passing an offer from a prospective buyer to a seller
  • being a representative of a licensed agent at a property exhibition
  • conducting an inspection of a property with a potential buyer or tenant
  • negotiating or seeking to negotiate a sale or sales agreement on behalf of a licensed agent
  • accepting an expression of interest or deposit from a potential buyer
  • undertaking the pre-listing or rental inspection of a property
  • pursuing a tenant for rental arrears.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration, you must:

  • be 18 or older
  • hold the required qualifications
  • not have been disqualified from registration.

A person is disqualified from holding a registration if they:

  • have been convicted, in the ACT or elsewhere, of an offence involving dishonesty
  • have been bankrupt at any time within the last three years
  • have a mental incapacity that may affect the exercise of the person's functions
  • are registered and have contravened an order of the ACAT
  • hold a suspended registration
  • are disqualified under a corresponding law to be an agent or an employee of an agent that is suspended
  • are a registered salesperson who is applying for another kind of registration and have contravened a condition of said registration.

If you hold a licence in another State or Territory and intend to conduct work in the Australian Capital Territory your licensing status will be recognised under the mutual recognition system.
