You need to be registered to practise as a dental practitioner in Australia. The following are dental practitioner protected titles:
- dentist
- dental specialist
- dental therapist
- dental hygienist
- dental prosthetist
- oral health therapist.
You can only use the above protected titles if you have the relevant qualifications and expertise.
The types of activities considered a part of dental practice may be updated or changed from time to time.
There are five different types of registration offered to practitioners:
- general
- specialist
- limited
- non-practising
- student.
There is one endorsement available for dental practitioners with additional qualifications and expertise:
- area of practice - conscious sedation.
