Registration of a Commercial Brothel or Commercial Escort Agency - ACT - Australian Business Licence and Information Service

Description

You will need this registration if you intend to operate a commercial brothel or commercial escort agency in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

A brothel is a premises used for the purposes of sex work, not including premises where accommodation is normally provided on a commercial basis. An escort agency is the business of arranging sex work at premises other than a brothel. All premises used for the purpose of sex work must be registered.

Please note that you do not need this registration if you are an individual sex worker operating as a sole operator.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration you must:

hold no convictions for criminal offences
hold a National Police Certificate
ensure each person involved in sex work undertakes regular medical health check-ups
ensure no one under-age works in your establishment
only operate in the suburbs of Mitchell or Fyshwick if you operate a brothel (including those that also offer escort services).

Please be advised you must also complete an annual report detailing the returns you have received from the operation of your brothel or escort agency.
