Registration of a Horse (Thoroughbred Racing) - Australian Capital Territory

Description

Owners of thoroughbred race horses in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) must register their horse(s) in order to be entered into any race or official trial. Registration refers to the official naming of a horse for racing or breeding. Horses that are unnamed must be registered before they can be entered into official trials or races.

Please be aware that:

  • there are vaccination requirements for a registered horse
  • any horse registered in a country other than Australia may be endorsed to race in Australia for twelve months
  • you must comply with the specified rules and your registration may be subject to conditions.

Eligibility requirements

Your application to register a horse must contain or be accompanied by the following particulars.

 

In respect of the horse's ownership:

 

  • Name and signature of each owner, date of birth and usual address
  • If the horse is owned by a company, the name of the company and its registered address
  • In the case of a horse owned by a syndicate, the name of the syndicate and the names of the trustees or registered manager thereof and the usual address of each of them.

In respect of a horse:

 

  • Age
  • Sex
  • Colour
  • Pedigree
  • Brands and markings
  • Microchip number if applicable
  • Veterinary Identification Certificate or Foal Identification Card
