Rules of Thoroughbred Racing - Australian Capital Territory

You may be required to comply with these rules if you intend to participate in the thoroughbred racing industry. There are two sets of rules that you may need to comply with, the ACT Local Rules of Racing and the Australian Rules of Racing. The rules include requirements for the following:

  • owners, trainers, riders, apprentices, bookmakers and all associated staff
  • the conduct of racing
  • race field standards
  • the drawing of barriers
  • telephone betting
  • sports betting
  • choosing racing colours
  • the procedure for appealing an official decision.
