How to Manage and Control Asbestos in the Workplace Code of Practice - Australian Capital Territory

Description

You may be required to comply with this Code if you intend to operate a business in a workplace in which asbestos or asbestos containing material is present. Examples include:

  • workplaces where asbestos is fixed or installed in a building, structure, ship or equipment
  • demolition works on a building, structure, ship or plant where asbestos is fixed or installed
  • workplaces where activities involving asbestos containing material are carried out

This Code provides information on the identification of the presence of asbestos at the workplace, and the implementation of measures to eliminate or minimise the risk of exposure to airborne asbestos fibres, thereby minimising the incidence of asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer.

This Code contains legal requirements which prohibit persons conducting a business or undertaking from carrying work involving asbestos or asbestos containing material, except in prescribed circumstances.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
