Accreditation of a Course of Study - Australian Government

Description

You may apply for accreditation of courses of study if you are a registered higher education provider or a regulated entity who has applied to become a registered higher education provider.

Registered higher education providers must not offer a course of study that is not accredited by either:

  • the Tertiary Education Quality and Standard Agency, or
  • the provider (in circumstances where the provider is authorised to self-accredit the course of study).

A registered higher education provider can apply for a self-accrediting authority which allows them to accredit new courses as they develop them.

A registered higher education provider may apply to TEQSA, in the approved form, for the renewal of the accreditation of a course of study.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for accreditation you must:

  • be a regulated entity who is, or has applied to become, a registered higher education provider
  • ensure the course of study meets the Provider Course Accreditation Standards.

TEQSA may accredit the course of study in relation to the applicant if TEQSA is satisfied that the applicant is a registered higher education provider and the course of study meets the Provider Course Accreditation Standards.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

An accredited course of study must continue to meet the Provider Course Accreditation Standards.

Approval time

TEQSA must, within 30 days after receiving a valid application, advise the applicant whether the application is accompanied by sufficient information, documentation and assistance and, if not, request that the applicant provide such. Upon receiving payment of the substantive assessment application fee, TEQSA must make a decision on the application within 9 months, or a longer period as determined be TEQSA.
