You will need this licence if you intend to act as an air traffic controller. Air traffic controllers manage the safe and orderly flow of aircraft into, out of, and between airports throughout Australia and overseas regions adjoining Australian airspace.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • hold a Class 3 medical certificate
  • have successfully completed the training (including any examination or assessment) specified for the licence, at least one rating and at least and endorsement relevant to that rating
  • speak English clearly, and understand spoken English, to a standard that allows clear spoken two-way communication in the course of performing an air traffic control function.
