Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Licence (AME) - Australian Government


You will require this licence if you intend to operate as an engineer in the certification of the airworthiness of an aircraft.

You can apply for four different categories of maintenance licences: A, B1, B2 and C. Each category of licence has their own privileges, limitations, exclusions and conditions related to the maintenance work that a licensee is authorised to do.

Licence holders are approved to certify that any maintenance undertaken, within their field of expertise, is compliant with the prescribed standards.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Be physically able to perform the job;
  • Be proficient in the English language;
  • Specify the category of licence being applied for;
  • Have completed the required trainings and examinations;
  • Provide evidence of other qualifications and experience relevant to the licence being applied for, including any relevant foreign licence or Defence Force aircraft authorisation.
