Aircraft - Non-Destructive Testing Authority - Australian Government


You will require this authority if you intend to conduct non-destructive testing of aircraft and aircraft components using dye penetrant, magnetic particle, radiographic, ultrasonic or eddy current inspection methods.

This authority does not allow you to make a final certification of the maintenance, only to physically perform and certify for that particular aspect of the maintenance.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this authority you must:

  • Be at least 21 years old (unless otherwise approved);
  • Be able to speak, read and write English;
  • Not suffer from a disability that is likely to affect your technical skill or judgement;
  • Have undertaken practical tests demonstrating adequate proficiency in the performance of the relevant non-destructive testing method;
  • Have the required qualifications; and
  • Have an acceptable level of visual acuity.

This authorisation may be issued to persons that are not licensed aircraft maintenance engineers.
