American Standard 16 CFR 1210 - Consumer Product Safety Standard for Cigarette Lighters - Australian Government

You may be required to comply with this standard if you intend to import lighters into Australia.

To import a lighter into Australia you must complete a statutory declaration stating that a certificate of compliance has been issued, in accordance with this Standard, or you must obtain the written approval of the Agency.

This standard outlines the national guidelines in place for the safety requirements in the design and manufacture of disposable cigarette lighters. The standard specifies requirements for eligible lighters for:

  • ignition and adjustment of flame
  • structural safety
  • flame height
  • abnormal burning
  • time for extinction of flame.
