Approval as a Medical Practitioner to Supply Pharmaceutical Benefits - Australian Government

Description

You will require this approval if you are a medical practitioner and intend to participate in the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). Approval will enable you to supply prescription medication subsidised under the PBS.

This service may be permitted in an area where the community does not have a convenient and efficient access to PBS medicines supplied by an approved pharmacy.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this approval, you must:

  • be a licensed medical practitioner and hold current registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • be working from a location where no pharmacist is operating within a reasonable distance
  • be willing to supply PBS medicines to any person in that area who presents with a valid PBS prescription.

Temporary approval for locums may be available.

Duration

For the duration of your practise in the area, or until a valid pharmacy opens.
