Description

You will require this approval if you are a pharmacist and intend to participate in the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). Approval will enable you to supply prescription medication subsidised under the PBS.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you must:

  • be registered as a pharmacist and own, or be about to own, a pharmacy business and have a legal right to occupy the premises from which the pharmacy business will operate
  • have approval from the national pharmacy registration board and your local council to carry on business in those premises
  • be able to supply pharmaceutical benefits to the public on request.

Duration

Approval is granted until cancelled or when you cease to supply pharmaceutical items from the approved premises.

Please lodge your application using the PBS Approved Suppliers Portal.

Additional information

If your pharmacy cannot operate in the case of disaster, you can apply for permission to supply PBS at an alternative premises for a temporary period.

Any changes to the size, location or ownership of the pharmacy must be approved by the Agency before continued approval will be permitted.
