Approval of Agricultural / Veterinary Chemical Active Constituent - Australian Government

Description

You will need approval if you intend to use a new source of an approved active constituent in the production of agricultural or veterinary products designed for use in Australia. An active constituent is a proposed or existing chemical product primarily responsible for the biological or therapeutic effects of the product, and its biological identification as an agricultural or veterinary chemical product.

Approval is required if you intend to use a new source of an approved active constituent in the formulation of either:

  • agricultural chemical products
  • veterinary ectoparasiticide (antiparasitic) products.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this approval you must:

  • satisfy the agency that the use of an active constituent will not have a harmful effect on human health, the environment, occupational health and safety, or trade
  • satisfy the agency that the constituent is, or is part of, a product in respect of which a standard is specified in the European Pharmacopeia, the British Pharmacopoeia, the United States Pharmacopoeia or any other publication considered by the agency to be appropriate
  • ensure that the product is effective for its intended use
  • satisfy the agency that the active constituent is well known, in common use and has a history of safety in the context of the use intended.
