Approved Wildlife Trade Operation - Australian Government

Description

You will need this approval if you intend to export Australian native wildlife for commercial purposes. The kinds of operations that require approval include:

  • market testing operation
  • small-scale operations
  • developmental operations
  • commercial fisheries
  • provisional operation
  • existing stocks operation.

Approval to operate as a wildlife trade operation is required for the taking of certain native wildlife specimens and their export. Wildlife effected includes those listed with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Exemptions

You will not require this permit if the native wildlife you intend to export is included on the List of Exempt Native Specimens.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you must make sure:

  • the operation is not likely to threaten any relevant ecosystem
  • the operation is not detrimental to the survival of taxon to which the operation relates
  • that if the operation takes live specimens, that the conditions that relate to the welfare of the specimens are adhered too.

Duration

New operations may be approved for up to three years.
